Community Occupational Therapy Service
The Community Occupational Therapy Service is concerned with helping people of all ages with a disability, and their carers, to make the most of their abilities and remain as independent as possible within their own homes.
Community Occupational Therapists are qualified to work with people who have a wide range of disabilities.
How is this Achieved?
- By giving appropriate and relevant advice about daily living activities.
- By liaising with other relevant departments of the County Borough Council and agencies.
- By providing suitable equipment.
- By arranging to have the home environment adapted.

- The service is available to individuals when:
- The disability is permanent and substantial (National Assistant Act 1948).
- The disabled person is ordinarily resident in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough.
- The aid / adaptation is to the disabled person’s only or main residence (Local Government and Housing Act 1989).
- The aid / adaptation is assessed as appropriate to meet the disabled person’s present and future needs.
