Merthyr Tydfil Community Mental Health Team Welcome to the Community Mental Health Team at Seymour Berry Centre.
Integrated Adult Services Directorate in partnership with the North Glamorgan Health Trust are committed to supporting people with Mental Health difficulties to live as independently as possible within their community.
At Seymour Berry Centre, we aim to be friendly, welcoming and professional. We offer a range of services for people with mental health difficulties who live in the County Borough of Merthyr Tydfil. We can also help you to get in contact with other specialist services if you need them.
The Team
Your Community Mental Health Team is made up of different types of mental health professionals. These include:
- Occupational Therapists
- Psychologists
- Social Workers
- Community Psychiatric Nurses and Health Care Assistants
- Psychiatrists
We also have administration staff and domestic staff who support the team.
We can help you to plan your care, as well as providing different types of support. We can work with you for a short or a long period. We aim to enable you to improve your mental health, and cope with any long term effects of having mental health problems.
Referral and Getting Seen
You can be referred to the team by many people including:
- General Practitioner
- Other health or social care professionals (e.g. health visitors, social workers).
- Yourself
- Family
- Friends
- Voluntary group (like a drop-in provided by a mental health charity)
If the referral is appropriate for our service, you will usually receive an appointment so that we can meet with you at the Seymour Berry Centre. We can see you at home, though only if you have exceptional difficulty getting to Seymour Berry.
When you first meet with a staff member they will assess your mental health needs with you by looking at your concerns and difficulties.
Depending on your needs, one of the following will happen:
- You will be offered a service by the team
- You will be referred to another agency who can give you more appropriate support.
- In some cases you may not need any further support at the current time.
